Website & Usability

01 Website & Usability

How easy is it to navigate the William Hill website?

With so much information to cram onto the home page, William Hill's website does look very busy. That said, it is easy to follow with the login details at the top. The top line shows William Hill's vast stable of bets and games from sports through to the casinos and games. The most popular sports such as horse racing, football and tennis feature on the next line followed by all sports. Underneath this are all the other services such as Tip Advisor, live streaming, in-play schedule and promotions. Visually it is not the most attractive website and it could take a tip from Paddy Power which has better graphics, visuals and quick links to head to the biggest gambling attractions and promotions.

The Will Hill website is quick and easy to use with clear signposts so you can easily find the games you want with just one or two clicks. There is also a search button so you could tap in Liverpool, for example, to see forthcoming games, the odds, statistics and an interesting 'Add to My Favourites' button. Live in-play is obviously a big deal at William Hill - it features prominently on the website. This is a good thing because more people are enjoying in-play betting. With the rise of cash-in bets it is useful to be able to follow the games so easily.

Betting Offers

02 Betting Offers

William Hill has it covered with its betting offers

William Hill offers a complete sports betting service with a great variety of markets. Gamblers will see a wide choice for the top sports like horse racing, football and greyhounds. However, you can also gamble on more obscure sports like bandy, GAA hurling, and winter sports events.

The William Hill sportsbook covers all horse race meetings in the UK and Ireland as well as a wide selection of global races. Likewise you can bet on world football including more obscure leagues such as the Spanish 3rd division or the Israeli Liga Bet North B. For the top clashes, such as in the English Premier League, there are more than 240 markets including correct score, total goals, goalscorers, number of corners and handicap bets. William Hill certainly has just about every market you can imagine betting on for the big games.

Great selection of in-play options

Our William Hill review shows that the in-play betting is second to none with hundreds of markets on dozens of events across many sports such as football, tennis, cricket, darts and ice hockey. There's an icon by each market to see which ones you can cash in during in play. You can also follow your in-play bets on live streaming on horse-racing, greyhounds, football around the world plus other sports. If it's not available on video, you can listen to the race or match on one of William Hill's four radio channels.

The Tip Advisor service coupled with the touchline statistics showing easy-to-follow graphics are great pointers to help punters make a more informed choice when betting.

03 Bonus

Not a groundbreaking bonus, but worth signing up for

The William Hill bonus is offering £20 in free bets when you bet £10. It is not the most generous offer as for example, the Paddy Power bonus offers £30 in free bets when you bet £10.

Obviously terms and conditions apply. To qualify for the bonus you have to sign up, quoting the William Hill promo code F20. Your first bet must be at odds of 1/2 (1.5) or more, and usually has to be placed on the day that you sign up to William Hill. As usual with offers of this type, the stake won’t be included in any winnings you get from your free bet. It is also good to not that customers using Skrill, Skrill 1-Tap, Neteller or PaySafe do not qualify for the offer.

Although it is not one of the best sports betting bonuses in terms of free bets, it is a nice little offer when you consider with the wide range of markets, sports, tips and live streaming you can enjoy.

For all participation details, refer to William Hill’s Bonus T&Cs.

Odds & Limits

04 Odds & Limits

William Hill odds are looking good

William Hill's odds compare favourably to other top bookmakers and are often close to the top of the league for big outright bets. If you are betting on a particular game it is worth checking out the odds comparison between the big bookies to see if one has the edge on another. On the whole, though, the William Hill odds are decent for all sports.

William Hill also offers enhanced odds every day on many markets for top events. Just look out for the Enhanced odds logo to see which matches are covered. You can also cash in your bet if you feel the game is going to go against you. Another good feature is that you can get your stake back as a free bet on an accumulator of six or more teams if just one of them lets you down. The odds are also available in fractional, decimal and American formats.

Low minimums and no maximum stakes

Whilst William Hill has a good minimum bet at £0.03 for singles, doubles, trebles and multiple bets, and £0.01 for accumulators of four or more, it does not set a maximum stake. This is determined on each individual bet. However, it is worth bearing in mind that there are maximum winning limits which may affect how much you wish to wager. These also vary and can be up to £1,000,000 for horse race winner singles and multiples in UK and Ireland meetings; £2,000,000 for some football bets for the top leagues and competitions, or £250,000 on virtual sports. This does mean if you want to bet big, you need to look at each sport to work out the maximum winnings. Our provider comparisons sports betting review shows how William Hill stands up to the other big names.

Customer Service

05 Customer Service

Lots of ways to get in touch

William Hill has an online help centre with lots of frequently answered questions which should clear up a lot of queries. Otherwise you can get in touch via live chat for a speedy response. We are impressed that William Hill has freephone numbers to get in touch, which are:

  • 0800 0856 296 from the UK with calls also being free from mobiles
  • +800 3551 3551 international freephone
  • +44 870 600 0479 for calls from outside the UK charged at £0.01 a minute plus network provider international charges

Registered customers can also send an email via the website or Tweet @WillHillHelp. The William Hill customer service opening times are from 8:00 to 23:00 on social media and 24/7 for phone and live chat, giving you plenty of time and opportunities to get in touch.

Staff who know their stuff

It is impossible to fault William Hill's customer service as there is someone available all day, every day, plus their staff are well trained and you'll get an accurate answer very promptly. They also seem to have most things covered in their FAQ section such as explaining betting types, rules for sports bets, using the mobile site, maximum winnings, and what to do if you've forgotten your login details, so you might find what you’re looking for there.

06 Payments

Huge range of payment methods at William Hill

No waiting for your winnings here! William Hill has to be the best online sports betting site when it comes to handling your money. Not only does it accept the widest range of payment methods but it also has the William Hill Priority Access Card giving you instant access to your winnings as soon as the bet comes through. This is an industry-first as there is no longer the need to wait three to five working days for the money to be transferred. You can use your access card to withdraw money from an ATM or make a purchase anywhere that accepts MasterCard.

William Hill also accepts many other payment methods, such as Visa and MasterCard credit and debit cards; Entropay virtual prepaid credit cards; Ewallets including Pingit, Skrill, PayPal, Neteller, Web Money, Yandex, QiWi wallet and Moneta RU; a variety of online banking from different countries including Comgate for Czech Republic, eKonto for Czech and Trustly; cash vouchers and pre-paid cards so you can deposit cash and use it for online payments including William Hill Cash Direct and AstroPay. If you prefer to use the more old-school payment methods then William Hill also accept bank transfers and cheques.

No need to worry about the minimum and maximum here

The minimum deposit is £5 by credit or debit card, which is pretty standard across the industry, while the maximum is up to £99,000 with a credit card. It is easy to make deposits and withdrawals by following the simple instructions on your account. Deposits are made immediately while withdrawals generally take three to five days.

The wide range of payment methods is impressive and the transactions are free of charge, although of course your bank may charge for wire transfers. These factors, coupled with the innovative William Hill card means top marks for the bookie in our William Hill review.

Security and Licensing

07 Security and Licensing

William Hill reviews its security regularly

Is William Hill safe? William Hill is licensed by the Gambling Commission in the UK and the Gibraltar Government plus it is regulated by the Gibraltar Gambling Commission, so you can be confident that it meets the strictest standards. Deposits made by customers are kept in a different bank account or escrow account which is separate from company funds.

William Hill also keeps information on clients' accounts securely data warehoused and confidential as well as complying with data protection requirements, especially the Data Protection Act 2004 in Gibraltar.

The UK Gambling Commission licence also requires operators to enable customers to gamble responsibly. William Hill does this by offering a selection of tools, including daily deposit limits, self-imposed bans (permanent or temporary), time restrictions on games and limited access to some areas. If you find you have concerns then Will Hill make your full customer history easily accessible so you can keep track of your betting habits. You’ll find links to advice and referral services on the website.

William Hill has a global reputation to uphold and is licensed in the UK which means you can gamble confidently. It also promotes responsible gambling and is a member of ESSA. Bearing this in mind, we are giving top marks in our William Hill rating for security and licensing.

Mobile Application

08 Mobile Application

William Hill app is fantastic for in-play

The William Hill mobile siteis easy to use. You can login as normal on your iOS or Android phone or tablet to access the site. We like the mobile version for in-play in particular as you can watch a game and then grab your phone if you want to cash in your bets.

Remember me and touch ID are available on the William Hill betting app which makes it easier than continually logging in via the keyboard. It's certainly nowhere near as busy as the main online website and so is manageable. You can also watch WHTV on the mobile and app so can follow your favourite sports or teams from wherever you are.

If you have any problems you can get in touch with Customer Services who will talk you through what to do next.

William Hill also offers a text bet service if you can't get online. You can deposit or withdraw funds, check your funds and place bets. The cost is the price of a normal text from your phone to a UK mobile while the minimum stake is £1. You just need to register your mobile to get started.

William Hill's developers have dealt with the scale on mobile very well so you do not waste time scrolling through the site or finding your bet. In terms of App comparisons for sports betting, this is one of the top sports betting apps so we score this function very highly in our William Hill review.
